Zoom Videos

There are various reasons for opting for video web conferencing instead of in-person meetings, such as geographical distances, time constraints, and health considerations. However, thanks to modern technology, these challenges haven’t hindered individuals and businesses from collaborating effectively. Unlike the days when video chats were limited to just two participants, apps like Zoom and Skype have elevated video conferencing to a new level, accommodating up to a hundred participants from different locations simultaneously. Let’s dive into the world of using Zoom video conferencing.
Getting Started with Zoom: To engage in a video conference, you’ll need a stable internet connection and either a laptop or a computer. If your desktop or laptop lacks a camera, you can purchase a webcam and set it up.
Once you have the necessary hardware, open your web browser and visit zoom.us to access the Zoom website. Sign up for a free account or log in using your existing Facebook or Google credentials.
Hosting a Meeting: After setting up your Zoom account, you can initiate a meeting by selecting the ‘Host a Meeting’ option at the top right of the screen. You can then choose from three options: ‘Video On,’ ‘Video Off,’ or ‘Screen Share Only.’ Click ‘Video On’ and then ‘Open Zoom,’ which will activate your camera, displaying your face on the screen.
With your video on, you’ll see a menu of options at the bottom of the window. Begin by clicking the ‘Invite’ icon to gather participants for the meeting. A pop-up window will appear, offering the option to send invitations via email. Click the ‘Copy URL’ icon and paste it into your email. Participants will require this link, akin to an event invitation. A password is also needed, located at the bottom left of the screen; be sure to forward it via email. Alternatively, use the ‘Copy Invitation’ icon to streamline the process and send the invitation directly from the app.
The email should contain information like this: Join Zoom Meeting [Zoom Meeting Link] Meeting ID: [Meeting ID] Password: [Password]
If you’re a guest receiving such an email, click the link and follow it to join the meeting. Make sure you have the Zoom app installed.
Zoom’s Advantages: Zoom offers several advantages over its competitors. You can share your screen with everyone on the call by clicking the green ‘Share Screen’ icon. Even as the initiator of the group video call, you can transfer control to another participant. Additionally, you can record the meeting, and once you stop recording, the app will save the video file as an MP4, suitable for archiving.
Ending the Meeting: When you’re done with the meeting, click the red ‘End Meeting’ icon.
In summary, Zoom boasts a user-friendly interface, making it accessible for first-time users. The best way to learn is by diving right in.
If you prefer to use Zoom on your Apple or Android mobile device, you can download the mobile apps for seamless mobile video conferencing. Stay connected, no matter where you are.
